Welcome Message
Hello everyone! Welcome to my blog!
My name is Sara, I am the founder of “Finding Italy”, a food blog started as part of a food culture class I’m taking at a private Japanese University in Tokyo.
You might be asking yourself why is it called “Finding Italy”, well it is very simple. The reason is that I am a huge fan of Italian cuisine and I wanted to find good restaurants or markets that sell Italian products of quality in Japan, mainly in Tokyo and Kanagawa.
Fun fact about me, I am Japanese but I lived my entire life in Italy. I grew up with Italian flavors, but now that I have moved to Japan, I kind of miss all of that. The purpose of this blog is to find the flavors of my childhood or better say of my entire life until now, in a totally different country that is Japan. By this I don’t mean that I am rejecting Japanese cuisine which is equally delicious and full of history, it’s just that I would like to have the reassurance that comes from knowing there’s a place where I can feel at home even if I am 13492 Km away from it.
I tried some “Italian” restaurants here in Tokyo, but they are far from possibly being called “Italian”. I have to admit that I went crazy when I have seen places that make Carbonara with heavy cream or places that serve pineapples on pizza. I don’t query on the taste, that might be actually good, but I just can’t look away from those unauthentic replicas being sold under the false name of “Italian food”. It’s pretty much the same for sushi, sushi is being diffused all around the world in a form that it is not the authentic one, surely it is tasty but it is not sushi, just call it in another way! At least, this is what I think.
Anyways, I hope you will find this blog interesting and more importantly useful when you are looking for good Italian restaurants.
