Restaurant Review
This Monday, I went to “Koutei Gyozabou” for lunch.
The entrance is on the first floor, but the actual restaurant is on the second, so as soon as you enter, you have to climb up a flight of stairs. Unfortunately there is no elevator, which means that it is not accessible for wheelchairs and strollers.
It’s a Chinese restaurant located in Suginami district, one minute from Shimotakaido Station. Being the restaurant at the end of a Shotengai, a local market street, you just have to walk through the Shotengai and you will find the restaurant on your right, just in front of a huge grocery store. Plus, as the entrance is all red, it’s very visible and easy to find.
This is what it looks like from the outside!
When I arrived on the second floor, I was greeted by an old lady who is probably the owner and the only staff of the restaurant beside her husband who is the cook.
As you can expect from the outside, this restaurant is not one of those fancy and elegant Chinese restaurants. However I liked the nostalgic atmosphere which was a commistion of Chinese traditional style and western style.
The place was very clean, but a little bit dark, maybe because Monday was gloomy
For the facilities, I really appreciated the tiny but clean toilet, and the open kitchen. When I was checking out, I saw the cook putting all of his heart in preparing the filling for gyoza so I was really happy to know that the food I was paying for was made with love.
The menu was not that big, but considering the fact that there was only one cook, it was plenty enough.
You can choose between course menu or ala carte, this time, I opted for the second option and ordered Gomoku Ankake Yakisoba and a plate of wonton. During the wait, which lasted only 10 minutes, the lady brought me some hot tea.
The taste of the food I ordered was amazing. The fried noodles were crunchy and with a positive smokey aftertaste. The vegetables maintained their freshness and the shrimp was tender and plump. The wonton was juicy and it married perfectly with the sauce on top.
.
A reasonable price of 1500 yen for good food! What else can I ask for?
